Do not give up!!

I am putting this video here in my blog simply because i just like it very much. It is so motivational, it is so touching and it is so inspirational. Look back in my life, i admit that i am a person who give up things quite easily. There are many excuses that i have been giving to myself. I believe human being tends to forgive themselves quite easily. From now on, i will remind myself to watch this video whenever i feel like i am giving up something 😉

Panel discussion with local CEOs

I attended this panel discussion with local CEOs which organised by BizAsia yesterday and i find that there is something interesting that i would like to share with everyone.

The speakers are as follow:

1) Aileen Sim – Co-founder and Chief Operation Officer of First Meta

3) Nicholas Chan – Executive Director of Azione Capital Pte. Ltd / Founder of Purple ACE and Fatte Telecomm

and the moderator

4) Eric Tachibana – Adjunct Asst Prof. School of Business, NUS / Singapore serial entrepreneur and venture capitalist

The topic for this event is : Entrepreneurship in the new economic outlook

Firstly, they were discussing about economic crisis. Surprisingly, all of them think that economic crisis brings a lot of opportunity. There were sure affects on their entrepreneurial venture, but they just seem confident to overcome those problem. Besides that,  Prof Hari said something that i remember very clearly. ” If you would like to start a business, there is no time other than now, Remember this, there is no such things called better time. I strongly agree with this statement. Think about this, if you are able to avoid the economic crisis, you might face problems with your capital, if you have capital you might have problem with your staff hiring, when you can avoid all these you may face problem with your product and the list go on…so i strongly agree that there is no such thing called best timing.

The other things that Prof. Hari mentioned caught my attention as well. When he was being questioned about how do we know whether our idea is workable, he said :” When people tell you that you are nuts…then you should continue to work whatever you think is correct. Of course that is provided that you have done enough homework. Again, all the entrepreneurs agreed with this. I believe not much people can make such decision whereby other people especially your family and your loved one do not agree on what you are doing. But if we look at all the noble entrepreneurs, all of them were started like this. And if you would like to start something that everyone agrees on, i believe tones of people already doing it. Thus, your chance of success gets lesser. So they define entrepreneurship as value creation, no limitation, commercialisation of venture….

They actually discussed a lot about team building. They emphasized a lot about the different between a team member and a staff. So the characteristic and personality of a person is the most important criteria for a team member. When someone asked about if you are facing technical problem and you are rushing for deadline, your team member is not able to settle it, how you are going to deal with this problem? Nicholas simply answered, hire someone. Staff can always be hired, but a good team member is not easy to find.

Personally, i think it is very tough to be an entrepreneur. But it will definitely be a fun thing if you can make something out of it. So i am now training myself to be an entrepreneur. 🙂 Wish me all the best!!

NLP

I have been learning computer programming for the past four years (though until now i know only the basics :P). Three days ago, i was borrowing book in the library. When i was browsing programming reference book, a book called <<Manage youself manage you life>> attracted my eyes. I was wondering why was this in the programming category. I took it and briefly look through it. The reason why the book was located with all the computer programming book is because it is also programming related book. But this is not computer programming, it actually talks about how to programme your book. The mechanism is called – Neuro linguistic programming. I found that was interesing and borrowed it.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is an incredibly powerful discipline that enables people to unblock the structures of human communication and human excellence.  By doing so people can think, communicate and manage themselves, and others, more effectively. There are some parts in the book that i would like to share with everyone here.

1) One of the central strengths of NLP is its emphasis on people’s responsibility for their own reactions. “You make me angry” is seen as en essentially misleading statement. ” You do this and i get angry” is nearer to the truth, because, ultimately nobody makes me angry but me. I personally think that the statement above is very good to remember for us to nurturing good EQ.

2) Making a change, in order to retake control of some aspects of your situation, is one of the most powerful basic techniques for managing yourself and managing your life. If you take action to change the state you are in, which is something that is largely under you own control, it immediately changes the way you feel about things and reminds you that you are in charge of your life. Depending on the circumstances, you will usually have many options about what to change. Let’s get really specific. What could you actually do right now to change your state?

i think that changes in your daily life is essential to make a more productive state in our life. i find that many people hardly escape from their comfort zone. If you know something is good and you are not doing it, probably it is good for you to start making some changes.

3)From problem frame to outcome frame

Problem frame includes – What is my problem? How long have I had it? Where does the fault lie? Who is to blame What is my worst experience with this problem? Why haven’t i solved it yet?

Outcome frame includes- What do i wnat? How will i know when I’ve got it? What else will improve when i get it? What resources do i have already that can help me achieve this outcome? What is something similar that i have succeeded in doing? What is the next step?

So…focus on solutions instead of problems.

4) As if

Think as if a change you seek has already occurred, in order to get clear about just how you achieved it. Or, if you are not sure you want a change, check out how your life will be further down the line if you don’t do anything now.

So for those who would like to success in your life, always imagine that as if you are already success. 🙂

5) Be flexible

-Develop FLEXIBILITY by learning from those who already have it.Then, increase your FLEXIBILITY by freeing yourself from limiting belief. Exercise your FLEXIBILITY by putting yourself in new environments and new situations. After that, practise your FLEXIBILITY by examing your routines and habits with an open mind. To achieve social FLEXIBILITY, be curious about other people. Last but not least, be flexible by borrowing a fresh perspective.

Everything around us has been changing so rapidly, so if we are still doing some things similar all the time, it will be good to adopt some FLEXIBILITY.

6) Aim to be resourceful, not just comfortable

Don’t think of your comfort zone as an area where everything is perfect and physically comfortable all the time. If that was it, it would sometimes be a very small area indeed. A more helpful way of looking at it is to think of it as the zone within which you feel you can, generally speaking, handle whatever crops up. You won’t always know what is going to happen next, but in this area you feel competent and resourceful enough to deal with most things that occur. And it’s the resourcefullness, the ‘I can handle it feeling, that makes you feel comfortable’.

So consider what helps you to be resourceful. Do certain activities strengthen you and give you confidence? Who are the people who can support you? Where, geographically, are you at your most resourceful? Can you spend some time there? What information do you need to either quell your fears or promote a sense of well-being?

manageThere are some interesting questions listed in the books that i would like to reveal my answers here as well  🙂 Please feel free to comment on my answers!

A) Five things I would do if there were no limits, no rules and I couldn’t fail:

1. Be a billionaire

2. Own an island

3. Save the earth

4. Help as many people as i could

5. Make everyone happy

B) Five things I haven’t done enough of in my life (so far):

1. Haven’t made enough money

2. Haven’t kept fit successfully

3. Haven’t given my family good life

4. Haven’t got marry with my loved one

5. Haven’t baptized

Hope everyone can put down their answers in my comment box as well. Let’s achieve our dream together. 🙂

还有太多需要学习的地方了,加油吧!!225px-abraham_lincoln_head_on_shoulders_photo_portrait

YES MAN!

Recently i have watched this movie and i like it so much. People who know me should have known that i am not a movie person, i fall asleep whenever i watch movie. So there are really few movies that could make me awake throughout the whole movie. “Yes Man” is one of them. So i would like to introduce about this movie in this blog.

Synopsis of the movie

Yes Man

Yes Man

Yes Man” stars Jim Carrey as Carl Allen, a guy whose life is going nowhere-the operative word being “no”-until he signs up for a self-help program based on one simple covenant: say yes to everything…and anything. Unleashing the power of “YES” begins to transform Carl’s life in amazing and unexpected ways, getting him promoted at work and opening the door to a new romance. But his willingness to embrace every opportunity might just become too much of a good thing.

My comment:

Although it is a bit too extreme if you say “yes” to everything. But if you observe our daily life carefully,we exactly say no to many things. Some are verbally but some are in your mind. I have been thinking since i finished the movie and i realize that it is so true. I have been saying NO when the alarm clock waking me up in the early morning, i have been saying NO when my lecturers give me more assignment, i have been saying NO to vegetables, i have been saying NO when people give me advice, and the list goes on……Sad to say this, many of the things that i have been saying NO are actually good for me. :p

Besides that, the story actually reminded me about some of the books that i have read. Many successful entrepreneurs actually propose an open-minded spirit. Maybe that’s the reason why they could grab many opportunities and made use of them.I believe opportunities are everywhere. If we reject all the opportunities that we have met, we might miss the chance to change our life and to accomplish our dream. Think about this, when you try out something new and the thing turn out to be bad. Most likely you will only lose some times or money. But i am sure you will get some experience and learn something unexpectedly. But  if you are not willing to try at all, you might just miss out something great.

People nowadays like to stay in their comfort zone where changes are hardly made. No doubt, changes are really difficult to make. I use to wake up at 8am and it will be much difficult for me to wake up at 7am in a particular day. Well, it depends on how much effort that you are willing to put in. Donald Trump once said, force yourself to do something new for 7 days continously, then you will get use to it. I truly believe that because i have nuturing my reading habit by doing that.

So, let’s say yes together. haha…..I believe this will be a good practise to make our life fruitful. Just like what the movie caption says-“One word that can change everything” 🙂
