There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure. – Colin Powell

NLP

I have been learning computer programming for the past four years (though until now i know only the basics :P). Three days ago, i was borrowing book in the library. When i was browsing programming reference book, a book called <<Manage youself manage you life>> attracted my eyes. I was wondering why was this in the programming category. I took it and briefly look through it. The reason why the book was located with all the computer programming book is because it is also programming related book. But this is not computer programming, it actually talks about how to programme your book. The mechanism is called – Neuro linguistic programming. I found that was interesing and borrowed it.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is an incredibly powerful discipline that enables people to unblock the structures of human communication and human excellence.  By doing so people can think, communicate and manage themselves, and others, more effectively. There are some parts in the book that i would like to share with everyone here.

1) One of the central strengths of NLP is its emphasis on people’s responsibility for their own reactions. “You make me angry” is seen as en essentially misleading statement. ” You do this and i get angry” is nearer to the truth, because, ultimately nobody makes me angry but me. I personally think that the statement above is very good to remember for us to nurturing good EQ.

2) Making a change, in order to retake control of some aspects of your situation, is one of the most powerful basic techniques for managing yourself and managing your life. If you take action to change the state you are in, which is something that is largely under you own control, it immediately changes the way you feel about things and reminds you that you are in charge of your life. Depending on the circumstances, you will usually have many options about what to change. Let’s get really specific. What could you actually do right now to change your state?

i think that changes in your daily life is essential to make a more productive state in our life. i find that many people hardly escape from their comfort zone. If you know something is good and you are not doing it, probably it is good for you to start making some changes.

3)From problem frame to outcome frame

Problem frame includes – What is my problem? How long have I had it? Where does the fault lie? Who is to blame What is my worst experience with this problem? Why haven’t i solved it yet?

Outcome frame includes- What do i wnat? How will i know when I’ve got it? What else will improve when i get it? What resources do i have already that can help me achieve this outcome? What is something similar that i have succeeded in doing? What is the next step?

So…focus on solutions instead of problems.

4) As if

Think as if a change you seek has already occurred, in order to get clear about just how you achieved it. Or, if you are not sure you want a change, check out how your life will be further down the line if you don’t do anything now.

So for those who would like to success in your life, always imagine that as if you are already success. 🙂

5) Be flexible

-Develop FLEXIBILITY by learning from those who already have it.Then, increase your FLEXIBILITY by freeing yourself from limiting belief. Exercise your FLEXIBILITY by putting yourself in new environments and new situations. After that, practise your FLEXIBILITY by examing your routines and habits with an open mind. To achieve social FLEXIBILITY, be curious about other people. Last but not least, be flexible by borrowing a fresh perspective.

Everything around us has been changing so rapidly, so if we are still doing some things similar all the time, it will be good to adopt some FLEXIBILITY.

6) Aim to be resourceful, not just comfortable

Don’t think of your comfort zone as an area where everything is perfect and physically comfortable all the time. If that was it, it would sometimes be a very small area indeed. A more helpful way of looking at it is to think of it as the zone within which you feel you can, generally speaking, handle whatever crops up. You won’t always know what is going to happen next, but in this area you feel competent and resourceful enough to deal with most things that occur. And it’s the resourcefullness, the ‘I can handle it feeling, that makes you feel comfortable’.

So consider what helps you to be resourceful. Do certain activities strengthen you and give you confidence? Who are the people who can support you? Where, geographically, are you at your most resourceful? Can you spend some time there? What information do you need to either quell your fears or promote a sense of well-being?
